Find out the lawgic behind why Milan is a happy city!

An ancient 19th century regulation in Austria & Hungary requires every citizen of Milan to smile in public places. In fact, any person found frowning will be fined! The exception(s) –  being in a funeral or visiting a sick person or a hospital. While it is not clear if this applies to visitors and tourists, be sure to keep the frown upside down the next time you visit Milan. After all a smile is contagious and spreads happiness 😊

The Psychology behind Judging

Judgment is beyond perceptions. Reality is often overlooked.

How many times have we looked at someone and concluded on them based on their  dress, look, demeanour, table manners, economic strata or even social media presence? Judging others is probably the most natural thing humans do after breathing.

It is believed that ‘first impression is the best impression’. It is a dichotomy to being judgemental. A first impression is involuntary while judging someone is a conscious act – intentionally thought through.

People judge others harshly/critically. It is never a positive act of appreciation. Often, this arises out of an ‘I am better than them” attitude. Sometimes, it arises out of  an unhealthy competitive and envious streak. Most of all it arises due to lack of self-esteem. The person being judged suffers low self-esteem, inferiority complex, lack of confidence and mental agony. Ironically, the same happens to the person judging others well!

It is important for each of us to understand that when we judge, we get judged as well. Each of us must pause to understand the value of positive affirmation and kind words. Sure, we cannot accept all that the other person does. But it is in our hands to filter the positive aspects while recognizing the negatives in a person. An act of motivation and encouragement will go a long way in fostering a positive ecosystem by developing strong interpersonal relationships and eventually make the world a better place to live in.

Renowned Swiss Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist said -“Thinking is difficult, that’s why most people judge.”

So, the next time you think of a person as someone ‘who has it all’, scratch the surface and beneath it you will find all the trials, tribulations, hard work and sacrifices made to ‘have it all’.
