No Naming Your Pig Napoleon (France)

Don’t ‘pork’ fun at Napolean in France. You will be in jail!

Law: In France, it’s illegal to name your pig “Napoleon”. This quirky law comes from a decree passed after Napoleon Bonaparte’s reign, as a way of protecting the memory of the famous French leader. Naming a pig after Napoleon was considered an insult to his legacy. In France, naming your pig “Napoleon” is a squeal of rebellion!

Success – a Fight Between You and Yourself

Our biggest battles are internal – asking oneself if we are successful compared to others. It is important to recognize that the battle is not with the success of others, but with self-perception and attributes that restrict or prevent us from attaining our goals – self-doubt, procrastination, lack of motivation, indiscipline, low self-confidence, critical self -judgment.

The first step towards success is dealing with and overcoming self-doubt, self-criticism. Most importantly doing what gives one pleasure. As philosopher Albert Schweitzer stated “success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful”.

Constant acquisition and upgradation of one’s domain knowledge and craft, developing  resilience and patience is key to being the path of success. Most importantly, it is essential to compete with one-self and not others. Though success is gauged by materialistic possessions, ideally it should be measured based on the betterment of the person, the quality of work executed, the value systems preserved in the process. It is about setting one’s own benchmark, achieving it and then moving to the next one. Look you self in the mirror, tell yourself that you are no less than others and carve your own path to success.
